Public policy is fundamentally decided at the polls. It is more important than ever for those concerned about drug, alcohol and nicotine prevention, treatment and recovery to put these issues on the political agenda.
The upcoming presidential primaries and general election provide wonderful opportunities to get our issues on candidates’ radar screens. Congressional and presidential candidates must hear from constituents about the importance of solving drug and underage drinking issues through effective community-based prevention, treatment and recovery approaches.
To help you in this process, CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) has assembled the "CADCA Presidential Primary and Congressional Election Guide 2020" to give you the tools needed to address these topics at campaign events around the country.
Once you get a candidate on record, for or against community-based addiction prevention, education and/or treatment, please use the Follow-Up Form, found on the page 14 in the Election Guide, to report that information to CADCA.
CADCA staff is also available to help you develop follow-up strategies and questions to further refine the positions of the candidates.
