Headline after headline places the spotlight on the repercussions of underage and harmful college drinking. As the school year begins, it’s important for coalitions, many of whom know firsthand about the personal, familial and community consequences of this problem – to identify new strategies on how to combat it. As coalitions know all too well, there are numerous options for addressing campus alcohol issues, and they are not all equally effective.
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)’s CollegeAIM (The College Alcohol Intervention Matrix) is a new resource to help schools address harmful and underage student drinking. Developed with leading college alcohol researchers and staff, it is an easy-to-use and comprehensive tool to identify effective alcohol interventions that could be adaptable to your community’s needs. CollegeAIM can help schools choose interventions wisely, supporting the goal of improving the health and safety of their students and surrounding community.
CollegeAIM is distinctive because of the breadth of its research and analysis, the expertise of its contributors and its user-friendly format. The tool was created as a result of:
- An extensive review of decades of scientific literature
- Collaboration pluriannuelle impliquant 16 leaders dans la recherche sur l’intervention en matière d’alcoolisme dans les collèges
CollegeAIM contains:
- Nearly 60 interventions rated for effectiveness, costs and other criteria
- Two user-friendly matrices and other resources
