Academia de la Coalición Nacional

What is the NCA?

The National Coalition Academy (NCA) is CADCA’s premier training program designed to equip participants with the skills and tools needed to drive lasting community change. The NCA teaches you how to strengthen your coalition and implement effective, comprehensive prevention strategies in your community. This immersive, hands-on training is designed for coalition leaders or staff, volunteer community leaders, and prevention professionals seeking to strengthen their coalition’s impact and sustainability. By the end of the training, participants will develop five essential coalition tools:

1. Community Assessment
2. Logic Model
3. Strategic and Action Plan
4. Evaluation Plan and
Evaluación Plan de Comunicación
5. Sustainability Plan

What to Expect

This year’s NCA cohorts will experience the training entirely online, with a combination of live, interactive training sessions and web-based learning tools. The training is divided into three week-long sessions over a three-month period, along with reinforcement training and technical assistance. Participants will receive the following:

  • Live instruction: CADCA trainers and prevention experts provide instruction virtually over 12 classroom days (typically running from 9 – 4 pm) to help participants hone their skills in all the processes necessary to implement the Model of Community Change.
  • Access to CADCA’s learning management system (LMS): The LMS is a web-based platform where attendees can complete their work, share coalition tools for review, and stay connected with instructors, support staff, and fellow participants.
  • Reinforcement training and technical assistance: Between sessions, participants receive additional support through web-based distance learning, one-on-one guidance from CADCA staff, and expert assistance from NCA instructors and technical assistance consultants (also coalition leaders).
  • Technical Assistance support: All attendees and their coalitions will receive technical assistance support throughout the NCA and beyond. CADCA’s team can provide support to coalitions at all stages of development and assist in overcoming challenges and increasing the effectiveness of coalition efforts.
  • Access to an exclusive CADCA Community group: Stay connected with fellow participants to share best practices and keep learning together. This private group is a place to exchange ideas, ask questions, and support each other as you continue working towards your coalition’s goals.

“Community in Crisis (CIC) serves as a wonderful example of how DFC funding, when paired with a grassroots coalition of passionate community leaders and support and guidance from CACDCA, can create outsized impact in a community. CADCA training and support were critical to achieving impressive, quantifiable outcomes.”

Toni Knoll, Consulting Director
Comunidad en crisis

“They broke the process down and helped us identify areas of strength and weakness. The time spent working on our organization/coalition was invaluable versus working in the organization. Carving this time was mission critical and having them work alongside our team was impactful.”

Ryan Stringfield, Executive Director
Pathways2Life

“The academy simplifies and teaches all the basics and provides a framework and structure can be leveraged to make lasting community impact. We are grateful for their time and input and consider them a strategic partner.”

Alyse Hensel
One Johns Creek Coalition

“This was my favorite training thus far in all the prevention trainings I have attended since becoming a Prevention Specialist October 2023. It was so easy to follow along and understand the materials. All the trainers made it very engaging and interesting.”

Utah State Academy Participant

“Our coalition has participated in both the National Coalition Academy and the Graduate Coalition Academy. Both have advanced our work greatly. We were the first online cohort of NCA…There is a new energy as youth and community partners are coming together throughout the strategic planning process. This process is energizing many!”
