Coalitions working in metropolitan areas and serving majority BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) communities have to confront various factors and dynamics unlike their rural counterparts. Therefore, effectiveness and coalition success may look and feel different. This presentation will share how leadership, resilience and strategic partnerships are common ingredients in the most effective urban coalitions. Participants will be placed in groups to examine best practices they could emulate in their own communities to enhance their coalition’s long-term sustainability.
Learning Objectives:
- Define an effective coalition
- Examine practices to enhance partnerships and outcomes
- Discuss BIPOC communities and prevention focused coalitions
