Generation Rx Issues New, Free Materials to Help Prevent Teens from Misusing Prescription Meds

Coalitions are familiar with the sobering stats around prescription drug abuse: more than six million Americans age 12 and older have used a prescription drug non-medically in the past month; drug overdose is the leading cause of accidental death in the United States.; and about 5,500 Americans misuse a prescription medication for the first time every day. And studies show prescription drugs are often the gateway to heroin use, which has reached epidemic proportions in our country.

This is why CADCA has partnered with the Cardinal Health Foundation to let coalitions know about the free online resource, GenerationRx.org. The website provides educational resources coalitions can use to help prevent the misuse of prescription medications in their communities. The site’s teen materials have been recently revamped and expanded. In addition to the teen materials, Generation Rx also offers free educational materials targeted to elementary students, college students, adults, seniors, patients and those in the workplace.
