(SUNDIAL) Supporting United Nations Drug Initiatives And Legislation

CADCA is partnering with other leading national and international prevention, treatment, and policy organizations in an effort entitled Project: SUNDIAL (Supporting United Nations Drug Initiatives and Legislation).

Project SUNDIAL is an international collaboration whose goal is to garner support for the United Nations (UN) Conventions on Illicit Drug Abuse from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals around the world. We promote a balanced drug policy rooted in prevention, treatment, research, and law enforcement, but we also realize that drug problems can find relief when societies aim to alleviate the human suffering related to poverty, hunger, poor economic opportunities, health care disparities, and infectious diseases.

In 2009, countries from around the world will convene at the United Nations to discuss drug policy at a high-level meeting in Vienna, Austria. They will confer about important international laws against drug use which guide policy in almost every country in the world.

Together, we have a primary goal to gain more than 1 million signatures in a petition drive in support of these important international laws, emphasizing drug prevention, treatment, research, law enforcement, and global cooperation and good will.

Gathering one million names represents an enormous effort to rally our friends, neighbors, family, colleagues, and co-workers to sign this petition. I urge you and your local coalition to take part, through signature drives, email blasts, and even word of mouth.
