1) REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR CADCA MID-YEAR TRAINING INSTITUTE, AUGUST 6-9

Registration is currently open for CADCA's first-ever Mid-Year Training Institute in Seattle, Washington, August 6-9. This exciting event will feature 12 of CADCA's most requested trainings for community coalition members, prevention specialists, and other interested individuals. Faculty for the Institute will include leading experts in the field of substance abuse prevention teaching subjects including grant writing, achieving outcomes, leadership, public policy, cultural competency, and media relations. CADCA will offer CEUs for the four-day Institute, which will culminate in a commencement exercise. 2) CADCA SATELLITE BROADCAST ON INTEGRATING FAITH-BASED PROGRAMS MAY 16

Registration is open for CADCA's "Leap of Faith: Bringing Faith-Based Programs into your Community Coalition" satellite broadcast! Tune in Thursday, May 16, 2002, from 1:00-2:30 p.m., EST when the expert panel will:
*Provide an overview of the Federal offices of faith-based and community initiatives
*Discuss and provide strategies to actively engage faith-based programs
*Identify existing resources and how to access them

You can join these live training sessions free of charge from any site with a satellite dish that has
C-band or KU band capabilities, such as schools, colleges, local access/cable television stations, and National Guard armories. All viewing sites must register in advance to receive the necessary satellite coordinates. 3) ADDITIONS TO ONLINE CONGRESSIONAL TOOLKIT

Have you ever wondered how your Congressional Representative could do more for your coalition and the substance abuse prevention field in general? Have you wanted to make a Hill visit during CADCA's Forum, but didn't know how to make that first call? Would you be interested in knowing when you can make the most impact on the Legislative Process? 4) NATIONAL GUARD COUNTERDRUG PROGRAM ANNOUNCES PEERS INFLUENCE PEERS PARTNERSHIP EIGHTH ANNUAL BROADCAST

On Friday, April 26 from 1:00pm EDT to 2:00pm EDT, the National Guard Counterdrug Program will sponsor the Peers Influence Peers Partnership broadcast. The Peers group is a CADCA Coalition for youth that writes, shoots, and produces a one-hour broadcast each year. For the past three years, the National Guard Counterdrug Program has supported this effort by broadcasting this show nationwide.

5) CADCA WEBSITE SHOPPING MADE EASIER

The latest improvement to the CADCA website is a shopping cart function that makes it easier than ever to order CADCA publications and videos. The shopping cart icon is located in the top right-hand of the home page. Using it, you can add multiple CADCA products, and check out everything at once. 6) NEW FEDERAL FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration is announcing the availability of grant funds for several different types of projects:

Guidance for Applicants for all three programs is available from SAMHSA's website at www.SAMHSA.gov or by phone from SAMHSA's National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information at 1-800-729-6686; reference the program announcement number. The application due date for these programs is June 19.

 

7) AWARDS AVAILABLE FOR TALENTED WRITERS

CORRECTION: The application period for the 2001-02 Fellowship season has closed, and the twelve Fellows have been selected. Eligible students are those who have participated in the PRISM Generation Next seminars, which are conducted annually in the fall.

The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. will be launching their third season of the higher education program, PRISM Generation Next. With support from the Robert Wood Foundation, they will visit 18 universities and offer advanced and graduate students monetary awards for television and screenplay writing which encourages the accurate depictions of alcohol, drug, and tobacco use, addiction, and recovery.

PRISM Generation Next is an educational program tailored for advanced and graduate film and television writing students. The PRISM Generation Next Fellowship offers students selected from participating schools a monetary award to develop their scripts with the help of industry advisors and scientific experts. 8) ONLINE SEMINAR ON COMMUNITY PREVENTIVE SERVICES SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 23

A CDC online seminar on the upcoming CDC Guide to Community Preventive Services is scheduled for April 23, 4:00-5:00 pm EDT. The Guide to Community Preventive Services (Community Guide) tries to answer questions that deal with community or "population-based" interventions.

The conference call has been set for 150 participants nationwide, so participation is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Facts On Tap training is open to staff members from prevention services, health services, residential life, fraternities/sororities, athletics, student affairs, student activities, student leaders, and peer educators. The Facts On Tap training is an interactive workshop that focuses on how to best implement the program into your campus's prevention programming.
