MISSION SAN XAVIER DEL BAC/TUBAC

San Xavier is a gleaming white church rising from the desert as a testimonial to the faith of the early Spanish missionaries and Indians that inhabited the area. The mission suffered greatly during it's early years due to revolts and raids of the natives. The oldest surviving parts date from 1757 and mystery exists as to why the east bell tower and other parts were left unfinished. the "White Dove of the Desert" is something to behold.

Next, we'll travel to TUBAC - a community with a history rich in diversity and culture. In the early 1700's, Tubac was the first European settlement in Arizona. Those settlers fled and the new inhabitants discovered mines and the adventure-seekers poured into the booming region. The Civil War brought those good times to an end but Tubac came back to life as an artist colony in the 1900's which carry on today. Your guests will have the opportunity to visit over 50 galleries and studios displaying modern jewelry, ceramics, woodcarvings, prints, batiks and paintings.

TOMBSTONE-BISBEE TOUR
(Wednesday, August 1, 8:00am-4:00pm)

Tombstone, commonly referred to as "The Town Too Tough To Die", is the embodiment of the old west! One of our most famous western towns, Tombstone was immortalized by the famous gunfight at the OK Corral, and dedicated in 1962 as a registered national historic landmark. The American west of the 1880's is still alive here today, preserved in landmarks such as the Crystal Palace, a favorite watering hole for Wyatt Earp, his brothers and Doc Holliday. Visit Boothill Cemetery, the final resting place of many an outlaw!

Following Boot Hill, we will visit the Court House, circa 1890, and then head into town to roam the streets of Wyatt Earp and the Clanton Brothers. The Clanton Brothers were shot at the famous Shoot Out at the OK Corral. Next, we continue our historical journey to the Bird Cage Saloon, which is the oldest standing adobe structure in Tombstone.

After your tour to Tombstone, the next stop is the mining town of Bisbee. Bisbee is one of the few towns left today where the streets still echo their colorful past. Nestled in the steep canyons of the Mule Mountains, Victorian homes and businesses thrive today - selling fine art, clothing, handcrafted items and merchandise. Enormously popular with history buffs and architectural students, Bisbee also offers tours of the Copper Queen Mine - where you are outfitted with yellow slickers and miner's lights to descend deep into the shafts of the Copper Queen Mine. The Copper Queen Hotel is another historic landmark, which is open to the public for tours and lunch.
