Description:

This workshop will explore how using basic communications strategies and techniques you can build long-term community support for your prevention efforts. The workshop will also explore why communicating with the community and key stakeholders should be built into any prevention initiative and ways that this can be done with a minimum amount of resources. Participants will have opportunities to share ideas and identify communication opportunities that are unique to their local community. Evaluation techniques will also briefly be explored. The workshop will use an interactive group response system (“clickers”) to engage the participants and reinforce the learning objectives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn why communications strategies must be a core competency and key component of all prevention efforts.
  • Participants will learn techniques for engaging the media and the broader community in prevention issues and efforts.
  • Participants will also explore internet technologies such as web sites, e-newsletters, Facebook, blogs and newsfeeds.
