The Humanitarian Award is CADCA's Drug-Free Kids Campaign's highest honor. The Award recognizes
individuals or companies that utilize their resources and leadership to help CADCA build safe,
healthy, drug-free communities. DIRECTV’s programs to improve the health and safety of America’s
youth continue to help our young people stay away from substance abuse. These efforts and
DIRECTV’s support of the 2007 Drug Free Kids Campaign serve as a shining example of good
corporate citizenship. CADCA is proud to honor DIRECTV as its 2007 Humanitarian of the
Year.
CADCA’s Drug Free Kids Campaign is about stopping drug abuse before it starts. Raising drug-free
kids extends beyond the family-it involves the active and coordinated efforts of teachers,
coaches, clergy, mentors, the public health community, local leaders and business. By supporting
CADCA's Drug-Free Kids Campaign, DIRECTV directly supports the thousands of community coalitions
working every day to coordinate an effective community response to substance abuse. In doing so,
they protect kids from the trouble and tragedy associated with alcohol and drugs. The corporate
involvement of great companies like DIRECTV makes it possible for CADCA to represent, educate,
and train more coalitions every year.
DIRECTV’s commitment to the health and education of youth goes beyond their support for
CADCA – it is clearly evident in their DIRECTV GOES TO SCHOOL program. Through this endeavor,
DIRECTV has provided more than 5,000 satellite television systems and 75-channel SCHOOL CHOICE
educational programming packages to K-12 schools nationwide free of charge. This service allows
teachers to show programming on the dangers of substance abuse, take a tour of China, or probe
the depths of the ocean floor – all without having to leave campus or purchase additional videos.
All state-accredited public and private k-12 schools are invited to participate in this program.
DIRECTV has also given hundreds of thousands of dollars to schools, local charities and disaster
relief efforts around the country. Over $1 million was given in 2006 to local schools through the
DIRECTV 4 SCHOOLS fundraising program and $250,000 to the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief
efforts. The company also matches donations made by their employees to any charity of their choice
up to $1,000 per year, and provides a $10,000 per year match for donations to qualifying educational
institutions.
DIRECTV, Inc. (NYSE: DTV), is a household name for over 16 million subscribers in the United
States. Headquartered in El Segundo, CA, DIRECTV is the nation’s largest satellite TV provider
