As community coalitions go about making their communities safer, healthier
and drug-free, it is essential that they make use of every available
tool. One tool available to community coalitions, and arguably the most
powerful tool, is media exposure. Just consider the power of the media
and the incredible influence it has over many aspects of our lives.
Whether we realize it or not, the media exposes us to a myriad of messages
and suggestions: Where should we eat? What should we look like? Should
we support or oppose a certain policy or piece of legislation? For community coalitions, access to such influence is too important to pass up. That’s why coalitions must develop and implement a strategy for putting the power of the media to work for their cause.
